April showers bring May flowers and water damage

Is your chimney ready for spring? Is it ready to repel water when the April rains come? If it’s not, then you might have to spend money making repairs to your home.

Water stains on ceilings, walls and the fireplace can happen as a result of leaky chimney flashing, a lack of a chimney cap or a bad chimney crown (the concrete “cap” at the top of the chimney). In severe circumstances it could also be soft brick or mortar.

Water can wick through soft brick, mortar and find its way through small cracks and crevices. In addition to water stains, mold or mildew can grow causing even more problems.

To preserve the investment of your home, we can take a look at your chimney and diagnose any problems and propose preventative work that can save you money on future repair costs. Remember, when the rains start, it will be harder for us to fit your repairs in between raindrops. So click here to contact us or call us at 847-948-7994.
