    Cost of a Re-Line

You’ve just been told that your chimney needs to be re-lined, and the cost is more than you expected…what gives? Let me explain…

At Lindemann Chimney, we pride ourselves with being the best in the business in all aspects of chimney and fireplace servicing. Our chimney sweeps, technicians, and materials are as good as it gets, which means the quality of work done in your home will be as good as it gets too! Proudly servicing Lake Bluff, Evanston, Glencoe and other surrounding Chicago areas.

Recently, when a customer was thrown by the cost of their re-line, I explained that there are two major parts to the project. First is the demolition. This consists of removing the existing clay flue, which is a very physical task with many hundreds of pounds of material being removed by hand. The next, and final, part can be just as physical and labor intensive. This is the installation of the fireplace components. It includes the new stainless steel flue, code required insulation for the new flue, code required high heat mortar, and a new stainless steel damper. Much of this repair work is performed at the very top of the chimney and can be quit dangerous. On paper, the repair can seem routine but in actuality, it requires a lot of training, hard work, and high quality materials. Just like anything else, there is a right way to do things and a wrong way, and when dealing with a fireplace there is nothing more important than quality work and materials.
