Do You Get The Firewood You Pay For?

How do you know you are getting what you pay for when you order firewood? An old New England saying is that if you are selling the wood, stack it so a cat can run through the cord. If you are buying it make sure it is tightly stacked with no gaps.

Wood is best purchased by the cord. This means it measures 4′ deep by 4′ high by 8′ wide (128 cubic feet) this is a full cord. If you could imagine firewood tightly stacked, on a 4′ X 8′ sheet of plywood, 4′ high, that’s what a cord would look like. If you purchase by the truck load you will get whatever they can fit in their pickup. Is it a short bed? A long bed? Full size truck? Small truck? Is it heaped?

When call to order wood by the cord, there’s no question about the measurements. Make sure they have it split and cut to a length that will work with your fireplace or woodstove. Also make sure they are going to unload and stack the wood for you.

Of course, if you are a customer of Lindemann Chimney Service you will be eligible for our Free Wood For Life Program.
