    Fire Prevention Week Reminders

The year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign runs from October 4-10. As the longest running public health and safety observance on record, this national event provides a great reminder of the importance of fire prevention. What began as a commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 has today become an opportunity to keep fire safety a priority for all.

To mark this annual event, Lindemann Chimney Service has compiled a few fire safety reminders for you and your family:

    • Keep fire protection equipment in the home. Smoke alarms should be located on each floor and a fire extinguisher should be easily accessible.
    • Develop a family fire escape plan.
    • Have chimneys and woodstoves cleaned annually to remove excess creosote – a highly-flammable combustion by-product.
    • Discuss with children the common fire dangers within the home such as lighters and candles.
    • Avoid the deadly effects of carbon monoxide poisoning by installing carbon monoxide detectors on each level of the home.
    • Two out of every five home fires start in the kitchen. Use caution when using kitchen appliances and never leave the area unattended while cooking.

For more information and access to free fire prevention awareness materials, visit the National Fire Protection Association’s website. It offers educators and families helpful safety information and tips. At Lindemann Chimney Service, we are dedicated to helping our customers protect their loved ones from the devastating effects of residential fires.
